After many years of making animations that were 3-6 seconds long while working at GIPHY, myself and my colleague, Tianna Harvey, had the idea to create an animated short. Drawing on themes of isolation and connection in the time of COVID-19, this short aims to use humor as a remedy to the unique yearning we experienced during lockdown.

Writing a disco ballad in lockdown …
I would definitely consider myself an amateur musician, but I learned a lot about composition, song-writing, and recording throughout this project. What I learned mostly is that it’s HARD! The challenge for me was creating a song that was equal parts beautiful, heart-wrenching, and funny all in a one minute track.
The Process
“Blobs in Space,” is a one minute animated short where Tianna Harvey and I explored the hilariousness and despair of connection in the time of Covid-19.

And Then
We wrote music. We sketched out the story beats, and began animating and building 3D environments.
