In July 2016 I illustrated a portrait of Paralympian long jumper Elexis (Lex) Gillette for a book centered around Nike's track & field athletes attending the Rio 2016 Olympics.
As a child, Gillette lost his sight due to recurring retina detachment, and is now known as the best totally blind American long and triple jumper in the nation's history. In his Paralympic class, all athletes are required to wear glasses or masks, so Nike worked with Lex to create eye gear that was just as sophisticated and poppin' as the rest of his sportswear.
